About Collage and Ink Drawing Prints.
I began using photos in notebooks when Costa Rica Natural Paper Co. was founded in 1992, and this was inspired by combining my love of photography. The utilization of my photos as a kind of diaristic manifesto; a collection of unique essays with discernible, coded traces of intuition, philosophy, travel, and current events; from hazy ideas to clarity in a frequently chaotic career; part activist, part documentarian, packed with life experience (phone numbers, newspaper clippings, etc.).
Not long afterwards the thrill of scavenging for paper scraps and ream wrappers, repurposing them for my own blank canvas, blended seamlessly with the thrill of weaving my photographs into a vibrant collage. Layering on strokes of paint, intricate designs, and a sprinkle of profound thoughts felt like unearthing long-lost treasures waiting to be unveiled to me. Each creation became a thrilling expedition, a quest of creativity where possibilities knew no limits, and the challenge of turning the mundane into something awesome was too enticing to resist.
